Pete Stauber, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 8th district since 2019, has recently posted a series of statements on his official social media account addressing government shutdown votes, the addition of copper to the U.S. Critical Minerals List, and honoring a World War II veteran.
On November 5, 2025, Stauber criticized two fellow senators for their voting records during a government shutdown. He wrote: "Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar have voted to keep the government closed 14 times.
With Veterans Day right around the corner, they voted to delay GI Bill payments, furlough VA staff, and down VA support lines.
Senators Klobuchar and Smith must stop playing politics and prioritize https://t.co/eNQ3pZpkuO"
The following day, Stauber commented on recent developments regarding critical minerals in the United States. On November 6, he stated: "Today, @Interior and @USGS announced copper's addition to the 2025 Critical Minerals List, joining nickel as vital U.S. resources. Our Iron Range holds a treasure trove of both! Looking forward to soon unleashing American mining dominance! https://t.co/p3wVf1xwFU"
On November 7, Stauber shared an experience involving a World War II veteran at Washington National Airport (DCA). He posted: "Just now at DCA, my staffer saw this 99-year-old WWII veteran deplane and EVERYONE applauded. So special. Thank you for your service, hero! https://t.co/4jbaOIngPo"
Stauber’s comments come as he continues his tenure in Congress after succeeding Rick Nolan in 2019. Before his congressional role, Stauber served on the St. Louis County Commission from 2013 to 2019. Born in Duluth in 1966 and currently residing in Hermantown, Stauber graduated from Lake Superior State University with a BA in 1990.
