Pete Stauber, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 8th district since 2019, has used his social media platform to highlight ongoing infrastructure and environmental issues affecting his constituency.

On July 31, 2025, Stauber shared a meeting with Col. Chase of the US Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District, stating: "It was great to meet with Col. Chase, the Commander of the US Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District, to discuss vital MN-08 projects like copper-nickel mining, the Blatnik Bridge project, and flood risk solutions. Later that day, Stauber acknowledged federal efforts on mineral development in Minnesota's Duluth Complex: "Thanks to @Interior and the Trump Administration for addressing this issue and moving us one step closer to responsibly developing the abundance of minerals in the Duluth Complex. @POTUS pledged to make America critical mineral dominant – and his administration is delivering! https://t.co/86c55kfFfz" (July 31, 2025).

On August 1, 2025, Stauber addressed air quality concerns in Minnesota due to wildfire smoke from Canada: "Right now, Minnesota’s air quality is among the worst in the world due to Canada’s wildfire smoke.

Poor forest management north of the border isn’t just ruining our summer, it’s endangering lives.

Stauber has served as a member of Congress since succeeding Rick Nolan in 2019 after previously holding office on the St. Louis County Commission from 2013 through 2019. Born in Duluth in 1966 and currently residing in Hermantown at age 56, he holds a BA from Lake Superior State University (1990). As representative for northern Minnesota's eighth district—a region notable for its mining resources—Stauber frequently addresses issues related to natural resource management and public health impacts tied to environmental factors.
