New technology at Kingston Park will help keep visitors at one of the city's most popular parks safe.
Crews installed a new lightning prediction and warning system in April called Thor Guard. The system, partially paid for with a grant, uses sensors that detect a build-up of energy in an approaching or existing storm and sounds the horn to alert staff and visitors to the likelihood of lightning.
If you live near the park, you may hear horns sound during a storm or when the system is being tested. You do not need to take action when you hear the horn; it is strictly to alert people at the park that everyone needs to get to safety.
