This deeply reflective work dives into moments and memories we experience that shape us as individuals. We are reminded of the dark or ugly places in our lives, the unknown, and uncertain to shine a light of hope and courage to stand up, stand out, and speak up. Told through the perspective of the youth, they share what they are feeling and thinking in the places where they can be impacted most. See our Sneak Peak to "Shapen" and "Vessel". Your purchase of the $12 ticket for our show will put us one step closer to reaching our goal!
This play was written in response to an invitation we received from the American High School Theater Festival to perform in their selected US High School stage at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2020! This is the #1 and largest arts festival in the WORLD! We need to raise a total of $150,000 to perform "The Beautiful Ugly" in the Fringe. This fundraiser performance is an opportunity to make history and seize a prime opportunity for Minneapolis youth. This life changing experience allows our youth the opportunity to
*Earn a college credit through the University of California-San Diego for 2 weeks of seeing, unpacking and responding to performance art
*4 performances of our show
*An international college tour
*Not to mention sight-seeing historical tours, and experiencing performing arts from all over the world!
Our director Tamiko French and 5 other volunteer teachers ( our Crew) took on this call outside of their regular duties as teachers to push to close the opportunity gap that continues to affect these bright and talented young performers. The Guthrie believes in our mission to help develop the next generation of art makers and is standing behind us to support this effort to raise the funds necessary by providing space and professional development with their amazing community artists, performances, and special guests. The cast has already created their first song on their soundtrack "Northside" IN the Guthrie recording studio! We are also featured in the community talkbacks after the "Twelfth Night" weekend matinee shows!
We believe in the power of numbers! We also believe that with your help we can make this happen. Follow our journey at www.legacyartsgroup.com ! Make a donation, share the story with others, subscribe to our social media to see what we are doing! We can't wait to share more with you on April 3rd and 4th!
