Pete Stauber, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 8th district since 2019, posted a series of statements on social media addressing recent events in Washington and commemorating a significant local tragedy.
On November 12, 2025, Stauber commented on the government shutdown and its impact: "I’m in Washington to vote to end this outrageous government shutdown forced on us by Senate Democrats. Families facing missed paychecks, grounded flights, and vital services cut off all for pure political spite. I’m proud to put an end to Schumer’s assault on the American people."
Following up on November 13, 2025, he detailed his vote to reopen the government: "I was proud to vote YES to reopen the government after over 40 days of Democrats weaponizing the American people to appease their far-left activists.
In September, House Republicans passed a clean CR to fund our military, SNAP benefits for low-income families, and essential"
Later that same day, Stauber marked the anniversary of a historic maritime disaster: "50 years ago, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior, taking 29 brave souls with her. I was proud to honor their memory at the anniversary events and recognize their way of life continues today on our Iron Range and shipping on the Great Lakes. Never forget these heroes."
The recent shutdown mentioned by Stauber led to disruptions such as missed paychecks for federal employees and interruptions in services like air travel—issues often seen during extended lapses in federal funding. In his posts, Stauber emphasized his role in efforts to resolve the impasse.
Stauber has served as Minnesota's 8th District representative since replacing Rick Nolan in 2019; prior to Congress he was part of St. Louis County Commission from 2013 until his election at the federal level. Born in Duluth in 1966 and residing in Hermantown, he is also an alumnus of Lake Superior State University with a BA earned in 1990.
