Pete Stauber, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 8th district since 2019, has used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and actions by both parties in Congress.
On October 16, 2025, Stauber posted: "But you voted against keeping the government open... And your Democrat colleagues in the Senate have now voted TEN times to keep the government closed."
The following day, October 17, he shared a video and wrote: "WATCH: Pennsylvania Democrat Senator John Fetterman calls out his own party over the government shutdown and admits their responsibility in the failures of Obamacare."
On October 18, Stauber added: "Despite Democrats shutting the government down, Republicans continue to work for you. Have a great weekend everyone!"
Stauber’s remarks come amid heightened partisan debate regarding responsibility for recent federal funding lapses. His posts reference repeated votes in the Senate concerning measures to reopen or fund parts of the federal government. The mention of Senator John Fetterman refers to public statements made by Fetterman about his party's handling of both the shutdown and aspects of healthcare reform.
Congressman Pete Stauber succeeded Rick Nolan as representative for Minnesota’s 8th district in 2019 after serving on the St. Louis County Commission from 2013 to 2019. Born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1966, Stauber resides in Hermantown and graduated from Lake Superior State University with a BA in 1990.
