Pete Stauber, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 8th district since 2019, addressed constituents in a series of posts on X regarding the ongoing government shutdown and his efforts to end it.
On October 14, Stauber invited the public to participate in a virtual discussion, stating, "Join me tonight at 6pm CT for a telephone town hall discussing the government shutdown. I will provide an update on Republicans fight to reopen the government and take your questions on the most pressing issues of the day. Following the event, Stauber thanked participants in a post dated October 15: "A huge thank you to the more than 16,000 constituents who joined my telephone town hall last night. I will continue to push my Senate Democrat colleagues - including Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith - to do the right thing and end this shutdown. They can do this by passing the https://t.co/JTOlqjiu82"
Later that day, Stauber commented on the impact of the shutdown on law enforcement officers: "While ICE agents risk their lives to keep our communities safe, they are now being forced to work without pay thanks to the Schumer shutdown. Despite this unfair hardship and the constant attacks from the radical left, these brave men and women remain committed to their mission. https://t.co/xaa4LTLHGq"
Stauber has served in Congress since 2019 after previously holding office as a St. Louis County Commissioner from 2013 to 2019. Born in Duluth in 1966 and currently residing in Hermantown, Stauber holds a BA from Lake Superior State University.
