Pete Stauber, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 8th district since 2019, recently shared a series of posts on social media addressing both mining industry developments and the ongoing government shutdown.

On October 4, 2025, Stauber highlighted his engagement with leaders in the mining and energy sectors, stating, "Loved connecting with industry trailblazers at the Better in Our Backyard Expo on Mining & Energy! Together, we will make America critical mineral DOMINANT!"

Later that day, he commented on the federal government shutdown, attributing responsibility to Senate Democrats. On October 4, 2025, Stauber posted: "American families are paying the price for this #SchumerShutdown. It will only take a few more Senate Democrats to put country over politics and reopen the government. We need Minnesota’s Senators to step up."

Continuing his criticism of Senate Democrats' handling of funding legislation, Stauber wrote on October 6, 2025: "House Republicans did our job and passed a clean CR to fund the government. It is now being held up in the Senate by Democrats. I urge Senators Klobuchar and Smith to stop playing political games and vote to reopen the government. A government shutdown hurts Minnesotans."

Stauber has represented Minnesota’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Rick Nolan in 2019. Prior to his congressional service, he was a member of the St. Louis County Commission from 2013 to 2019. Born in Duluth in 1966 and currently residing in Hermantown, Stauber graduated from Lake Superior State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990.
