STILLWATER, MINN. (December 7, 2022) – From January 18 to January 22, the world’s eyes will fall on Stillwater, Minnesota for the second annual World Snow Sculpting Championship hosted by The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce Foundation in partnership with the City of Stillwater and Winter Fun, LLC. The global gathering will be celebrated with a week-long festival of events, entertainment and competition in Downtown Stillwater’s Lowell Park and surrounding businesses.
The event will bring 12 world champion snow carving teams from eight countries, including Canada, Finland, Germany, Turkey, Ecuador, Argentina, Mexico and the United States, to compete in the ultimate snow sculpting competition. Spectators can expect to see magnificent, world-class snow sculptures made from huge, man-made blocks of snow provided by Afton Alps.
“We’re honored to come together for the second annual World Snow Sculpting Championship in our historic city of Stillwater,” said Robin Anthony, President, Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce and Co-Director of the World Snow Sculpting Championship. “This year, we’re hosting more teams, activities and events for all of our visitors to enjoy. It’s a great opportunity to bring Stillwater and Minnesota to the world stage.”
There will be special events held throughout the week, including:
- Wednesday, January 18 | Opening Ceremony
- From 4:30-7:00 pm at the JX Event Center, the Opening Ceremony will kick off the competition and events with olympic-style fanfare.
- Tickets are $95 and can be purchased on this webpage.
- Thursday, January 19 to Friday, January 20 | World Championship Carving
- Teams will be set up from sunup to sundown at Lowell Park bringing their snow sculptures to life.
- Local retailers, restaurants and bars welcome all visitors and may have unique events and promotions of their own during the week.
- Free and open to the public.
- Saturday, January 21 | Closing Ceremony
- Starting at 4:00 pm in Lowell Park, the Closing Ceremony will celebrate the week and conclude with the announcements of 1st, 2nd & 3rd place teams, along with the coveted People’s Choice award.
- The World’s Coolest Block Party will follow the Closing Ceremony until 9:00 pm, where visitors can enjoy music, entertainment, beverages and snacks while perusing eye popping, award winning, internationally recognized snow sculptures!
- These events are free and open to the public.
- Sunday, January 22 | MinneSnowta Nice Day Family Event
- From 9:00am to 5:00 pm at Lowell Park, MinneSnowta Nice Day Family Event will feature dancing, live music, Minnesota mascot appearances and all things Minnesota to wrap up the event!
- More details to be announced in early January.
Community members and guests are encouraged to come out for each event, seeing daily progress of the snow sculpting competition and participating in events at local retailers, restaurants and bars. A free shuttle service at Stillwater Motors will be available daily for guests to park and ride to downtown Stillwater.
