Celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Stillwater Fire Department - Take a Fire Run Tour of Stillwater

7

Stillwater, Minnesota. Lens Flare Stillwater, a not for profit project originally funded by The Stillwater Area Community Foundation, announces its Newest and FREE Fire Run of Stillwater APP to visitors, students, tourists and residents.  This award-winning project provides a web-based APP for mobile devices that enables anyone to carry the history of Stillwater in their pocket while traveling through a geo-location time tunnel. New historical locations, stories about early fires, horses and buildings are featured in the Fire Run Tour.

Safely take a virtual reality tour of Stillwater in your favorite armchair by going to any of these FREE APPS and use the new 2022 Mapping Function. But, the best way to experience the History of The Stillwater Fire Department is in person, on site.  Exercise while keeping a safe distance from others at these locations as you learn about what was once here. Get any of the FREE APPS by going to the bottom of the Home Page of the LensFlareStillwater.org web site. Then click on the graphic that excites your imagination and curiosity. These APPS work on any mobile smart device or computer.  Walk, Pedal or Ride as a Passenger through this local history. The Browser-based APP senses your location and whenever you enter a different, invisible “Geo-Fence” on the trail or route, your device responds with historical graphics, text narratives and AUDIO cues about the very same location as it was many years ago. The Audio Trigger, an innovation by Lodestar Learning Systems was new in 2020 and allows users to be alerted by sound when a different historical location is nearby.  Experience the early Fire Department locations along with John Runk Photos of fires that shaped Stillwater’s past. Listen to the sounds of the early days.

Co-Founder of Limitless Cycling, (who bring adaptive bicycling to all to combat social isolation,) Mr. Matthew Stepaniak says, “Lens Flare Stillwater gives our passengers an added experience while enjoying their ride around Stillwater. The APPS allow history to come to life and honor memories by blending our past with the present location then engage imaginations of what it was like in an earlier time.”

Dr. Molenda, a retired 3M research manager and marketer heads up a small volunteer group of history buffs who provide the content, narratives and populate the software fields for this project.  “The project is alive with content from the Stillwater Public Library, The Stillwater Fire Department, The Minnesota Historical Society and the Washington County Historical Society,” says Molenda. This year we are featuring “Sounds from the Past” that announce your arrival at the different historical locations.
