Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce: Xcel Energy Update

Gfj

Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement on February 26.

Dear Community and Chamber Members:

Tree trimming is a regular discussion point within the communities we serve.  Just like many (most?) of your communities participate in TreeCity USA, we are proud to participate in the partner program for utilities.

The Tree Line USA® program exists to recognize best practices in public and private utility arboriculture, demonstrating how trees and utilities can co-exist for the benefit of communities and citizens. The Arbor Day Foundation collaborates with the National Association of State Foresters on this initiative. These state foresters bring expertise in balancing the demands of expanding utility needs in our communities alongside the benefits of providing adequate care for our urban forests. There are numerous community benefits including: healthier and more abundant community forests, reduced tree mortality resulting from proper pruning and trenching/tunneling practices, increased reliability of service because properly pruned and maintained trees result in fewer downed lines during storms, reduced energy costs to consumers through strategically planted trees for energy conservation, and a broader urban forest canopy and reduced heat island effect as a result of more shaded pavement. Additional information can be found here: www.arborday.org/TreeLineUSA

The Arbor Day Foundation has named Xcel Energy a 2022 Tree Line USA® Utility in honor of our commitment to proper tree pruning, planting and care within our service area.  The Tree Line USA program promotes the dual goals of delivering safe and reliable electricity while maintaining healthy community forests.  Xcel Energy achieved Tree Line USA by meeting five program standards: follow industry standards for quality tree care; provide annual worker training in best tree care practices; sponsor a tree planting and public education program; maintain a tree-based energy conservation program; and participate in an Arbor Day celebration.  This marks the 27th year of receiving the award, an achievement we are certainly proud of.
