North High School issued the following announcement on Dec. 14.
Polar Nation, it is with great sadness that we share with you today the loss of one of our Polar Cubs. Polar Mom, Ms. Ronnie, has asked that we let the classmates and teachers of her only child, Keyaries Benford, know that Keys died last night after a rollover car crash. Keys would have been 16 years old on the 30th of this month. This was his sophomore year and second year at North High. We cherish his memory, mourn with his family and covet your thoughts as many of our students and staff feel like we’re facing down death all around us. Let us choose life, Polars. Through everyday choices. Be safe. Wear your seatbelts. Please. Please. Put your seatbelts on. Wear your masks. Choose life. We need you to survive.
