Incumbent Shelly Christensen defeated Republican Joe Garofalo, who was hoping to represent House 39B for the first time.
Christensen posted the following statement on her Facebook page on Nov 4.
“Be patient! We have to let the process play out. Official results are coming. I am proud of the Minnesota tradition of conducting fair elections. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am here because of all of you and I am truly blessed. Gratitude to my amazing family, my campaign team and all of the selfless volunteers who gave this race their heart and soul.I am so very honored to have you with me.”
Garofalo, who lost by a small margin, conceded in a post on his Facebook page.
“I did not win election,I did win the support of 49.5% of the voters.I met and made hundreds of new friends," he wrote on Facebook. "I learned a lot about politics and about the people of our community. I was welcomed at thousands of homes and listened to everyone that was willing to share their story, their beliefs and their concerns. I spent a lot of time campaigning with my wife and children, we worked together as a family. We laughed a lot and stressed a little. We are closer than ever.I grew, I was humbled, honored and appreciate each and every person. You gave words of encouragement, advice, donations and most valuable- your time.Thank you, neighbors and friends & family for the opportunity to serve,”
