Stillwater students once again outperformed their peers in the state and nationwide on the ACT national assessment exam, according to a news release from Stillwater Area Public Schools.
Stillwater students scored an average composite score of 23.1 on the 2019-2020 ACT, exceeding the Minnesota average of 21.3 and the national average of 20.6.
The ACT national assessment is mainly used as requirement for college admission, but is also used by schools and districts to gauge the effectiveness of curriculums, instructional practices, assessments, programming and learning environments.
ACT results can also be used as a benchmark to predict how students might perform in typical college courses such as English, algebra, social science and biology. Stillwater students are performing well in these metrics as well with 56% of Stillwater students not only meeting three or four of the ACT College Readiness Benchmarks, compared to 43% of students statewide, but also outperforming students from within the state and across the nation in every subject area including English, mathematics, reading and science.
