Thomas Edison High School issued the following announcement on May 29.
As MPS students, staff, families and our community continue to grieve the murder of George Floyd and the injustices of our systems, we ask you to please consider how you respond over these next few days.
According to our city’s and state’s leaders, destruction during nightly demonstrations is being caused by people who do not truly care about the welfare of our city or of our Black and Brown friends and families.
We want our staff, students and families to be safe -- from violence and from COVID. For that reason alone, please follow all safety guidance and curfews until the understandable unrest in our city has decreased. Change needs to be made, but it needs to be made by the people impacted, not people who aren’t invested in the outcome.
Take care of yourselves. Take care of your family and friends. Be part of the change, but be safe.
