The White Bear Lake City Council passed a resolution that will refund two months of the cost of the annual liquor license for on-sale bars and restaurants.
All bars and restaurants have been closed due to the executive order issued by the governor on March 17. The order is effective through May 4.
The city council has also authorized city staff to start making negotiations with businesses in order to set temporary monthly payments to offset the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual full on-sale liquor license costs $3,200. Businesses may also possess an additional Sunday liquor license that costs $200 per year. A $250 annual fee is also needed for wine and beer licenses.
The city says that it will calculate what two months of each amount will be eligible for a partial refund.
City Manager Ellen Hiniker told White Bear Press, “At this point, we’re recommending a two-month refund of liquor license payments to cover that period of time in which they’ve been asked to be closed as a result of the pandemic, recognizing that there may be additional extensions of that, whether it’s immediate or at some other period of time.”
