Shriners Hospitals for Children issued the following announcement on April 24.

In an effort to increase social distancing along the pedestrian and bike pathway, the city of Minneapolis has closed the southbound lane of East River Parkway. The current closure is scheduled through May 4, 2020. 

Alternate routes from both east and westbound Interstate-94 follow.

From I-94 East:

• Exit I-94 at the Cretin/Vandalia (Exit #237).
• Stay in the right lane of the exit ramp until you reach the traffic light, turn right on Cretin Avenue (southbound).
• Stay in the right lane of Cretin Avenue until you reach the intersection with Marshall Avenue, turn right on Marshall Avenue. (You will be traveling west on Marshall Avenue.)
• Stay in the right lane of Marshall Ave., slow as you approach the intersection with Otis Avenue, the exit for East River Parkway is immediately after Otis Ave. (It is very easy to drive past.)
• Turn right onto to the exit (to East River Parkway), this will bring you to a stop sign.
• Turn right at the stop sign onto East River Parkway. (You will be traveling northbound on East River Parkway.)
• After about 3/4 of a mile, you will come to a stop sign. (A black railroad bridge crosses overhead.)
• Continue straight on East River Parkway and you will see Shriners Healthcare for Children on your right side after you drive under the railroad bridge.

From I-94 West:

• Exit I-94 at the Cretin/Vandalia (Exit #237).
• Stay in the middle or left lane of the exit ramp until you reach the traffic light, then turn left on Cretin Avenue (southbound).
• Merge into the right lane of Cretin Avenue until you reach the intersection with Marshall Avenue, turn right on Marshall Avenue. (You will be traveling west on Marshall Avenue.)
• Stay in the right lane of Marshall Ave., slow as you approach the intersection with Otis Avenue, the exit for East River Parkway is immediately after Otis Ave. (It is very easy to drive past.)
• Turn right onto to the exit (to East River Parkway), this will bring you to a stop sign.
• Turn right at the stop sign onto East River Parkway. (You will be traveling northbound on East River Parkway.)
