Amidst COVID-19 concerns, Washington County has prohibited the further disposal of organic and food scrap items at the Northern Yard Waste site.
The prohibition is active until further notice. According to an article by Patch.com, Washington County officials have said they want to resume service accepting organic waste and food scraps as soon as possible.
In the meantime, the yard is still accepting yard waste to be disposed of by local residents, though the county has directed residents to maintain a 6-foot distance from others while at the yard to dispose of waste.
The county continues to encourage residents to find a responsible alternative for organic waste and food scraps. For instance, they suggest residents explore backyard composting.
The county also suggests finding recipes for making the most of their food so as to avoid generating food scraps. And they note that proper food storage can prevent wasting food.
