North High School issued the following announcement on Nov. 27.
Want to commit to an attitude of gratitude, peace and love beyond the holiday? Here are a few ways that can be done; whether you’re a parent, educator or a student.
Parents:
• Sync your calendars to your kids. Find out what things are coming up for them.
• Be at their events. If you can’t, put their events out there for your extended family to show up for.
• Teach and model for your children how to persevere and push through. Let them see the ways in which challenges, distractions and naysayers can be overcome and proven wrong; by doing so yourself.
• Don’t endorse overcoming through arguments and confrontation. But through your child’s personal success and achievements!
Educators:
~ Breathe. Calm your soul and ground your spirit. Plant your feet. Let your roots go deep. Be an oak tree that may bend but won’t break.
~ Plan. Often the difference between when we feel strong or weak is directly correlated to our planning.
~ Don’t be a hypocrite. If we tell our students to be persistent and resilient, we must be also.
~ Have, hold and model high standards.
Students:
> Picture yourself 5/20/15 years from now. Where do you want to be? How do you want to be? What do you want to be?
> Paint that picture in your mind, describe it to others and inscribe it on your heart.
> Surround yourself by people who will help that painting become real life. By people who will lift you up, turn your head back to the prize when you get distracted and by people who will not just agree with everything you say and do - but will lovingly check you. Because they believe in you and aren’t afraid to hold you to a high standard.
