Cub Foods has announced its request for customers to not openly carry guns in its stores as a response to safety concerns.
Cub Foods said it rethought its policies after large retailers like Walmart, Walgreens and Kroger changed their policies after mass shootings in several states in the last year.
The grocer also changed its policies on e-cigarettes, deciding to no longer sell them due to concerns from the health community, StarTribune reports.
After several mass shootings earlier in the year, many chain stores are requesting customers not open carry and some have stopped selling certain guns and ammunition, the news agency reported.
While some reacted with relief upon the announcement regarding open carry, others didn't agree with the decision, StarTribune reports.
United Natural Foods currently owns Cub Foods, but plans on selling the 81 grocery stores in Minnesota and Illinois possibly next year, the news agency stated.
